He captured the attention of fans, journalists and Eastern League officials last week and today took home Player of the Week honors for his effort.
He cracked 11 hits in 22 at-bats to put up a .500 average. Kerly collected no home runs, 5 RBIs and scored 4 runs.
This season Kerly is hitting at a .358 pace with 1 home run, 19 RBIs and has scored 21 times. |  | Wednesday, June 1st, 2016: Akimoto Best WL Starter Yoshio Akimoto has made fans throughout Nippon Baseball Ni-Gun League take notice over the past month with an exceptional 4-2 record. No pitcher in the Western League threw better in May, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today.
In 6 starts Akimoto compiled a 2.36 ERA, putting up a 4-2 record, striking out 45 and tossing 45.2 innings.
