| Breaking News | | Sunday, August 4th, 2013: Asheville Blanks Sand Gnats, Burnside Notches Win Branden Burnside allowed 6 base hits while walking 0 and striking out (%pitching k] as Asheville blanked Savannah. In the postgame interview Burnside said, "I'm trying to keep the ball down and let guys put it in play. It worked for me today."
Burnside should be pleased with his performance so far in 2013. He has rung up 5 wins and 8 losses in 19 games. He has an ERA of 2.16 and has fanned 36 batters in 145.2 innings. | | Tuesday, July 30th, 2013: Dominant Burnside Gives Greenville Splitting Headache "He's got a bunch of different arm angles, and his ball was really moving," said the Greenville manager after watching Branden Burnside of Asheville humiliate his club in a fine 5-hit shutout. "If I make good pitches, I'm going to get some outs," Burnside said after he befuddled the Greenville. "I was making good pitches the entire game." He whiffed 2 and walked 3 in the route-going effort.
To date this season Burnside is 4-8 with 18 and an ERA of 2.30 with 34 strikeouts in 136.2 innings. | | Wednesday, July 24th, 2013: Kannapolis Win Behind Perfect Game from O'Connor Kannapolis Intimidators pitcher Mike O'Connor will probably have many memorable performances during his baseball career, but none will likely compare to the outing he had against Asheville.
O'Connor was perfect, retiring every batter to give his team a victory over the Tourists. He finished the game with 2 strikeouts in improving his record to 1-0.
"That shows you the kind of competitor he is," Kannapolis's manager said. "I thought he dominated the whole game. He hit his spots. He was focused out there."
"At the beginning of the game, I was pretty nervous," said O'Connor. "But as the innings went on, it got easier. The team definitely had my back."
O'Connor has worked hard to get to here. This year the rookie hurler has compiled a 11-2 mark, 1.55 ERA, made 19 starting appearances, fanned 103 batters, issued 26 bases on balls, tossed 156.1 innings and held the opposition to a .146 batting average. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 67-53, .558 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 32.0 GB | | Record at home | 35-25, .583 PCT | | Record on the road | 32-28, .533 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 13-10, .565 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 27-22, .551 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 17-14, .548 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 50-39, .562 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in April | 17-11, .607 PCT | | Record in May | 16-13, .552 PCT | | Record in June | 15-10, .600 PCT | | Record in July | 15-14, .517 PCT | | Record in August | 4-5, .444 PCT |
