Tuesday, May 24th, 2016: 2000 Hits for Fields
"It would have been a lot nicer, if my 2000th hit had won the game," lamented Tim Fields after the Detroit Tigers had been tripped up by the New York (A) Yankees, 11-3, spoiling his big day.
The Tigers third baseman gained access to the exclusive 2000-hit club by going 1-for-4 in the game played at Comerica Park.
"The standing ovation by the fans is not something I will ever forget," Fields related to the press after the game. "I think even the Yankees fans were cheering me."

In his career Fields has accumulated a .316 batting average with 2000 hits. His totals include 413 doubles, 81 triples, 77 home runs, 1187 strikeouts, 1001 runs scored, 743 RBIs and a lifetime .371 OBP.
Saturday, May 7th, 2016: Tigers Asadoorian Hurt
Detroit fans will be disappointed to learn that Rick Asadoorian developed a torn calf muscle while running the bases in today's game. After the doctor informed the Detroit Tigers manager that Asadoorian was expected to miss 2 months, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the center fielder could return. "You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper.

This season Asadoorian has banged out 37 hits in 138 at-bats for a .268 average with 3 home runs. He is getting on base at a .299 pace and his totals also include 13 RBIs and 19 runs scored.
Wednesday, April 20th, 2016: Mathews Will Miss 2-3 Months
Detroit fans will be disappointed to learn that Felix Mathews developed a ruptured achilles tendon while running the bases in today's game. After the doctor informed the Detroit Tigers manager that Mathews was expected to miss 2-3 months, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the third baseman could return. "You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper.

In the 2016 season Mathews is hitting .268 with 2 home runs.
