The Seibu Lions will have to make do without Yasuo Nakai for 4 weeks. He suffered a fractured foot while running the bases in the game today against the Hanshin Tigers. His teammates, understandably, were upset about losing the right fielder. "That's a tough break for him," one of them said. "But this team is resilient. We will just fill in until he gets back."
So far this year Nakai is batting .314 with 6 home runs. |
 | Friday, June 8th, 2018: Carp Shirai Blanks Golden Eagles
The Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles were almost helpless today in their 4-0 loss to Hiroshima Toyo hurler Katzumi Shirai. He kept them confused the entire ballgame and spun a 1-hit shutout.
The Tohoku Rakuten manager said in the postgame interview, "Tip your hat to Shirai. He kept us off balance all night."
Shirai said, "It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play. It was just one of those games that things went my way."
He had 3 walks and 4 strikeouts in a strong performance.
In 11 starts this year Shirai has fashioned a 6-4 record and a 3.64 ERA. |

Michinaga Takudo was in charge the whole game in the Tigers victory over the Lions today. In a superb performance he blanked Seibu 4-0, yielding 3 hits while registering 3 strikeouts and 1 walk.
